Lloyd Einarson, 88 of Fergus Falls died Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Lloyd Einarson was born on August 15, 1931, in Starbuck, Minnesota to Melvin and Josephine (Stavig) Einarson.  Before the family moved to Morris, Minnesota, he was baptized at the Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck.  While living in Morris, Lloyd attended and graduated from Longfellow Grade School and Morris High School in 1949.  While attending high school, he was very active in athletics and music.  He was a four-year letter winner in football, basketball, and track, competing at the state level in track.  After graduation he was awarded an athletic scholarship to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  In 1951, he enlisted in the US Air Force.  After his training in San Antonio, Texas, he served at Cape Canaveral during the early space program.  He continued his Air Force training at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.  In 1952, Lloyd was transferred to Clark Field AFB in Luzon Philippines.  Lloyd worked for the Aircraft Control and Warning System where he received a letter of commendation from the Philippine Air Force for assisting in safe return of a lost Philippine Air Force plane over the South China Sea.  During his stay at Clark Field, Lloyd played basketball for the 13th Air Force competing in several Military tournaments in the Far East including Manilla and Japan.  After returning to the United States in 1954, he completed his service with the Air Force at a radar station on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  He received his discharge, at Otis AFB, and returned to Minnesota.

In 1958, Lloyd married Marlys Johnson and to that union, they were blessed with four children, Gail, Terri, Robert and James.  He began his career in agriculture managing a grain elevator in Hancock, MN, followed by a sales positions with Swift Agriculture Chemicals in southern Minnesota, Occidental Chemical in Grand Forks, ND, and Mobility Fertilizer Equipment in Fargo, ND.  The family moved to Fergus Falls in 1973 and continued to make their home here.  Marlys enjoyed her work at the Highway Host and Big Chief restaurants and made many friends while working at both locations.  Lloyd was particularly fond of his relationship with his friend and partner Jack Laimer in their comedy team of “Eno and Lemo” for over twenty-five years, and his enjoyment of playing golf with his golfing friends.  He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 2339 and life member of VFW Post 612 both of Fergus Falls.

Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents and former wife, Marlys; son-in-law, Brian Jones of Winnipeg, Canada; and sister, Betty Droen of Minneapolis.

Lloyd is survived by two daughters, Gail Jones of Fergus Falls and Terri (Mike) Sanstead of Evansville; two sons, Robert (Debbie) of Rogers and James (Patty) of Baxter; grandchildren, Mike Schreiber of Underwood, Jaclyn (Matt) Korby of Fergus Falls, Erin (Logan) Van Hon of Baxter, Cristian Einarson of Baxter, Jacob Einarson (US Marines) of Rogers, Jade Sanstead of Norway and Jasmine (Chris) Synstelien of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kyle Korby, Emma, Hailey and Allie Synstelien all of Fergus Falls; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 2 PM, Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with visitation three hours prior, from 11 AM until the time of service.

Military Honors: Harold T. Swenson VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30, Fergus Falls

Interment: Fargo National Veterans Cemetery in Fargo, ND
