Joyce (Borgos) Boldt

June 15, 1928 — March 14, 2019

Underwood

Joyce Elaine (Leitch) (Borgos) Boldt died peacefully March 14, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home in Battle Lake.  Joyce was born June 15th, 1928 to Stafford and Lillian (Kolstad) Leitch in Sverdrup Township. She attended Country School District 112, known as the Leitch school, was confirmed at Rindahl Church, and attended high school at Underwood, graduating as Valedictorian. She continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.

Joyce and Alfred L. Borgos were married February 14th, 1948 and farmed a few miles west of  Underwood. They were blessed with 5 children. As a couple they were involved in many community organizations. Joyce was very active with Sverdrup Church, teaching Sunday School and volunteering in positions in the Ladies Aid. Joyce’s orange rolls were served at many Easter breakfasts and quickly disappeared. She was also active in volunteering with Hospice, 4-H, PTA and her children’s activities. Alfred passed away in 1978 and Joyce stayed on the farm for several years before building a home on South Turtle Lake.

On June 4, 1994 Edward Boldt and Joyce Borgos were married at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. They lived on South Turtle Lake, wintering in Arizona, until entering the Lakeview Senior Living in Battle Lake. Ed passed away in November, 2012. Joyce moved to the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Nursing Home the summer of 2013.

Of all of Joyce’s interests, her first love was for her family. Each of her 13 grandchildren was her favorite. She enjoyed going to all of their activities and making their favorite foods. She missed not being able to see them and her great-grandchildren as her eyesight diminished. She always was willing to play cards with family. Joyce enjoyed travelling with family and friends. She loved dancing all her life (square dancing in her later years) and was an avid reader even when she had to use audio books. Even though Joyce lost her eyesight, her love for life did not diminish and she kept being involved in whatever she could. One of her specialities was playing trivia, and often impressed others  in the Nursing Home with her memory.

Joyce is survived by her children - John (Linda) Borgos of Shoreview, Dennis Borgos of rural Fergus Falls,  Alan (Patti) Borgos of Otsego, Deborah (Dale) Budke of Evansville and Curtis (Susie) Borgos of Eagan; thirteen grandchildren- Daniel (Natalie) Borgos, Tom (Megan) Borgos, Aaron Borgos, Sarah (Aaron) Holden, Joe (Kim) Borgos, Amanda (Jarod) Burleson, Collin (Nicole) Borgos, Jess Borgos, Tyler (Megan) Budke, Isaac Budke, Katrina (Nick) Gaspar,  Dylan Borgos and Connor Borgos; and seventeen great-grandchildren-  Cy and Celia Borgos;  Stella Holden; Emma, Lily, Aubrey and Jack Borgos; Maggie, Trace and Laney Burleson; Evelyn and Lucy Borgos; Lydia and Clara Budke; and Simon, Cecilia and Raphael Gaspar. She is also survived by sister Marlys Beckman of Underwood; brother Duane (Joyce) Leitch of Apple Valley; sister-in-law Sadie Rood of Edmonds, Washington, sister-in-law Elizabeth Brummond of Breckenridge, special cousin/classmate Marilyn Schmidtke of Maple Grove and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also survived by Edward Boldt’s children -Susan (Robert) Herding, Karen (Arnold) Dufault, Craig (Nancy) Boldt and Steven (Michelle) Boldt; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
