Gordon Wellbrock

Gordon R. Wellbrock, 84, of Fergus Falls, MN, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 in Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls.

Gordon was born March 18, 1934 to Robert and Mathilda (Goese) Wellbrock in Fergus Falls.  He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls MN.  Gordon attended District 66 rural school and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1950.  He attended Dakota Business College for two years and served in the U.S. Army Reserves before returning home to help on the family farm.  Gordon worked as a mail carrier in Fergus Falls for 35 years until his retirement in 1999.  During his time with the postal service, he volunteered for the annual postal food drive.

On December 26, 1957, Gordon was united in marriage to Jean Davidson in Breckenridge, MN.  They made their home on a farm in Aurdal Township.  Gordon and Jean were members of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Gordon loved spending time with family and friends, working outdoors on yard work around the farm, playing golf at his homemade course, and attending local high school and college sporting events, especially basketball.  He especially enjoyed the Fergus Otters, NDSU Bison and the New York Mills Girls Basketball team from the early '80s.  Gordon enjoyed visiting with people on his mail route, at The Viking Cafe, and with his Ham Radio hobby (callsign:  NØCCS).

Gordon is survived by his wife, Jean, Fergus Falls; son, Jim (Becky) Wellbrock, Faribault, MN; grandchildren,  Nathan Wellbrock, Laura Wellbrock, and Graham Wellbrock, all of Faribault, MN; sister-in-law, Rhoda (Cloeter) Wellbrock, Fergus Falls; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mathilda Wellbrock; brother, Kenneth Wellbrock; mother-in-law, Irene (Carlson) Davidson; father-in-law, Reuben Davidson; and brothers-in-law,  Dale Davidson and Larry Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church or an organization of the donor’s choice.

Visitation:  5 - 7 PM Wednesday, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral Service:  10:30 AM Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Clergy:  Reverend Ed Monson and Reverend John Kilde

Interment:  Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Fergus Falls
