Milo Haagenson

May 19, 1930 — July 27, 2019

Battle Lake

On Saturday, July 27, 2019, Milo Henry Haagenson, 89 years old, shed the physical and mental constraints of his earthly body to be given a heavenly body to run to give his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his signature bear hug.

Born on May 19, 1930, God had mighty plans for “Baby Boy Haagenson”, who started out at 5 pounds, born to Henry and Anna (Braaten) Haagenson.  Milo was the youngest of six children: Boletta (Lyle) Warburton, Alicia (Raymond) Thomas, Helen (Wallace) Wicklund, Arla (Glen) Kantrud, and Harvey (Katherine) Haagenson.  He attended Oakdale Country School through 8th grade and Henning Public School through the 10th grade.  On his 14th birthday, his dad succumbed to terminal illness to put Milo in the role of provider and protector.  His faith in Jesus Christ was nurtured and matured in his lifelong Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church family.  He most readily expressed his love for God and fellow man through acts of service, in the giftings of mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, accounting, cemetery caretaking and administration.

Milo farmed for a few years south of Clitherall and later in rural Clitherall and Eagle Lake Townships.  He did apartment complex maintenance in Minneapolis for two years, built bridges, did maintenance work at Norway Beach Resort, was the “neighborhood Mr. Fixit”, and served as a sales representative for Conklin Sales.  He served on the Eagle Lake Township Board, and was a member of Leaf Mountain Church, where he served as treasurer and on the cemetery board.  In his spare time, he enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, mechanics, and carpentry.

Milo met the love of his life, Marion Hoff at the wedding of his uncle, Helmer, and Marion’s aunt, Emily.  They were married by Pastor H.E. Oakland at the Vining parsonage on June 29, 1952, attended also by Harvey and Kathy Haagenson.  To this union were born four children, Naomi (Rick) Pilantz, Noreen (Jerry) Bolstad, Nola Anderson, and Mike Haagenson.  There are 10 grandchildren, Matt Hagedorn, Melissa (Jason) Hubred, Jake (MJ) Hagedorn, Lisa (Kevin) Watson, Alisha (Roddy) McNeill, Sarah (Travis) Halena, Laura (Bryan) McKown, James Anderson, Walter Anderson, and Garyt Haagenson-Buck; 20 great-grandchildren, Kelly, Josiah and Jonathan Hagedorn; Jon, Jayme, and Eric Hubred; Kylie, Avery, Layla, Chase, and Addie McNeill; Anna, Jayson, and Emma Thormodson; Bryson, Braylyn, Bryella, and Brylee McKown; Daegyn Saenger and Colt Anderson.  He is also survived by his companion and ray of sunshine, Ara Bursch.

In addition to his parents, Milo was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his siblings and in-laws; two grandsons, Josiah Jacob Bolstad and James Milo Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Leaf Mountain Lutheran Cemetery.
