James Drechsel

James "Jim" Drechsel, 85, of rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota died Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

James Martin Drechsel was born on March 18, 1930, in Friberg Township, rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Otto and Bessie (Grant) Drechsel. He was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage and confirmed in Tonseth Lutheran Church. Jim attended Rural School District #229 in Friberg Township through the eighth grade.

Jim and Carol Hendrickson were married on November 5, 1950, by Rev. M.A. Uhlig in the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage of rural Fergus Falls. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Friberg Township. He was employed with Noyes Construction, Elk River Concrete and Dynamic Homes. Jim enjoyed fishing, especially winter spearing, and was known to fish all day, only coming home for noon lunch. He liked trapping, both mink and muskrat, and his favorite thing to do was cutting wood. Jim took pride in his garden and his neatly kept yard, he was definitely an outdoorsman. He was a member of Tonseth Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Carol; two sons, Bruce (Kathy) Drechsel and Jeffrey (Robin) Drechsel, both of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Angela (John) Gutz, Shaylin and Noah of Fergus Falls, Christy Drechsel of Fergus Falls; Tracy (Marc) Carter, Riley and Ella of Cloquet, Jennifer (Joe) Thomson, Natalie and Layla of Rochester and Jesse (Ali) Drechsel, Carson and Haylee of Underwood; brother, Lowell (Geneva) Drechsel of Erhard; sister-in-law, Carol M. Drechsel of Erhard; and by numerous relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bessie Drechsel; son, Steven Drechsel; sister, Laura Haarstick; three brothers, Alfred, Wilfred and Donald Drechsel; and a great-granddaughter, Angel.

Visitation: 3 – 5 PM Sunday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Monday, November 16, 2015, at Tonseth Lutheran Church of rural Erhard
