Irene Grinder of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at Pioneer Cottages.
Irene was born January 17, 1918 to Soren and Selma (Olson) Knutson on the family farm in St. Olaf Township. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She married Glendon Grinder November 9, 1938, in Elbow Lake, MN. They farmed in Pomme de Terre Township and worked cleaning cabins at Ten Mile Lake Resort until moving to Fergus Falls in 1971. She then worked in the kitchen at the Broen Home for 18 years, retiring in 1987. People there loved her cinnamon rolls. After retiring she was involved with the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band until early last year when her health failed. She enjoyed traveling, old time and country music, bingo, parades, church and attending family gatherings.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glendon, her parents and all of her nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mavis (Rodney) Eggum of Dalton, Marlys Myaer, and Larry Grinder of Fergus Falls, 11 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Donna Knutson.
A Memorial Service will be Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 2pm at the Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
