Hazel Torgrimson, 84 of Ashby died Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Hazel LaVerne Torgrimson was born February 9, 1936, in Underwood, Minnesota the daughter of Jens and Alfrida (Anderson) Johansen.  She was baptized and confirmed in Sverdrup Lutheran Church.  Hazel graduated from Underwood High School in 1954, and furthered her education with two years of Teachers Training in Fergus Falls and, in the fall of 1958, she earned credits at Bemidji State University.  She taught three years in District #114 in Eagle Lake Township.

Hazel and Orris Wedin Torgrimson were married on February 14, 1959, in the Sverdrup Lutheran Church.  To this marriage were born eight children, LuWayne, Terry, Todd, Dean, Judy, Betty, Sherri and Jeremie.  They lived on their farm where they milked cows and farmed until the dairy buyout in 1988.  Hazel worked for Mendelson’s Egg Plant in Elbow Lake for six years, the Farmers Produce in Ashby for eight years, and continued with beef cattle until 2012, when she retired and moved into Ashby.  She was a member of Grue Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and Church Bible Study, Eagle Lake Sportsmen’s Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed quilting, reading, the outdoors, her family and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by seven children, LuWayne (Cindy) Torgrimson of Brandon, Terry (Janie) Torgrimson of Evansville, Dean Torgrimson of Ashby, Judy (Brad) Mattocks of Evansville, Betty Klug of Webster, WI,  Sherri Maanum of Fergus Falls, and Jeremie (Michelle) Torgrimson of Aurora, CO; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Ashley (Ben) Johnson, Sheila Bakken and Chance, Chad (Marion) Dassinger, Alissa (Casey) Hancock, Deven (Cally) Anderson and Lillian, Melinda (Travis) Kraus, Isaiah, Owen and Amanda Klug, Lucas and Nicole Maanum and Eva Jo Torgrimson; sister, Marlys Schmidt of Fergus Falls; brother, Rickie (Dee) Johansen of Wahpeton, ND; and by numerous relatives and friends.  Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Orris on August 8, 1977; son, Todd Torgrimson; parents, Jens and Alfrida Johansen; sister, Jeanette Berg; and two brothers-in-law, LaVern Berg and Arnold Schmidt.

Visitation: Sunday, March 22, 2020, from 4 to 7 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby.

There will be a Private Family Funeral.

Interment: Grue Lutheran Cemetery.
