Glen Dahlen

January 6, 1933 — March 17, 2011

Glen Dahlen, 78, of Ashby died peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2011, surrounded by his family at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Glen Eugene Dahlen was born January 6, 1933 to George and Linnea (Olson) Dahlen on a farm near Erdahl, MN. He graduated from Evansville High School in 1951. In April of 1953, he entered the Army and served his country in Korea for a year and a half.
On July 31, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Corinne Langlie. They were married in an outdoor wedding on the Langlie family farm which they eventually owned and lived most of their lives. This is where they raised their six children and where Glen enjoyed raising cattle and farming the hills of Eagle Lake Township. When Glen was first discharged from the Army he drove gravel truck for Donald Johnson and hauled tar when Highway 78 was built. After this he drove milk truck for the Ashby Creamery and then worked for many years at the Ashby Equity Station. Later he began employment at 3M in Alexandria where for twenty-six years he took pleasure in the camaraderie of co-workers and the activities they shared including hunting, snowmobiling and driving motorcycle. Retiring in 1995, he and Corinne built a new home in Ashby where they resided happily to the present.
Over the years Glen served his community in many different roles. He was treasurer of Eagle Lake Township, treasurer of the Ashby Community Club and an officer of the 3M Club. As a member of Eagle Lake Sportsman's Club he helped organize the annual fish fry and for Coots Unlimited he raised ducks for a few years. For 56 years he was a member of the Ashby American Legion Peterson-Tripp Post 357. During that time he occupied the positions of commander and honor guard. Many may remember Glen as their favorite Bingo caller at the Legion which he had fun doing for 36 years. After retiring, Glen loved to fish the area lakes with family and friends. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him a lot of joy especially these last few years when he couldn't get around as easily.
Glen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Corinne; children, Cheryl (Diedrich) Von Soosten of Palm Coast, FL; Lori (Jeff) Brede of Alexandria; Donna Dahlen of Ashby; Daniel (Karen) Dahlen of St. Cloud; Jana (Bill) Lachowitzer and Julie Dahlen of Ashby; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; his mother, Linnea Dahlen of Good Samaritan Nursing Home; sisters, Bev (Don) Copher of Hastings; Diane Alstead of Evansville; brother, Larry (Dianne) Dahlen of Sioux Falls, SD and sister-in-law, Maggie Dahlen of Evansville along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father, George Dahlen; brother, Dennis Dahlen; grandson, Jesse Griep and brother-in-law, Gene Alstead.
