Effie Bishop, 97, of Evansville died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Evansville Care Center from complications of a stroke.
Effie Nerine Hellickson was born April 15, 1917 in Grant County, Minnesota the daughter of Nels and Elsie (Hanson) Hellickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Erdahl Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools and graduated from Evansville High School 1935. Following graduation she completed a correspondence course in bookkeeping from Omaha, NE.
On December 19, 1937, she was united in marriage to Guy Harold Bishop. From this union two daughters were born, Evonne in 1941, and Diane in 1944. They resided in Evansville for all of their married life. Guy passed away on December 26, 1995. Effie moved to Arabella Manor in 2006. She was a Sunday School teacher when her children were younger, member of Faith Lutheran Church, an honorary member of ladies aid and a longtime member of the Sons of Norway.
She enjoyed reading, listening to music, traveling, especially trips to Hawaii and Norway, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Effie is survived by her daughters, Evonne (David) Herbig of Barnesvillle, MN and Diane (Roger) Bukkila of Evansville. Grandchildren Keith (Kelly) Bukkila, Kim (Duane) Ostlund, Elizabeth (Dean) Calpas, Theresa (Matthew) Halverson and Stephanie (Todd) Bertram. Great Grandchildren Travis Olson, Nicole, Nathan & Lauren Halverson, Conner, Noah & Owen Bertram and Emily Bukkila. Step Grandchildren Leslie (Scott) Blue, Clay (Kristin) Ostlund, Aaron and Lauren Ostlund. Great-Great Granddaughters Brooklyn & Madelyn Ostlund and Samantha & Audrey Blue. A special fondness for her 'adopted' daughters Jackie Wenstrom and Sharon Denardo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Elsie, and her husband, Guy.
Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville
Visitation: Saturday from 4 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Clergy: Sarah Evenson, SAM
Interment: Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville
