Amanda Ehlert

Amanda (Stueve) Ehlert, age 91 of Battle Lake died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Amanda Rebekah Stueve was born on April 20, 1924, the daughter of Dick and Marie (Eckhoff) Stueve on her parents' farm in a log home, in Henning Township by Henning, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning. As a child, Amanda and her family spoke only German at home until she and her siblings began attending rural country school by Henning. As a teenager, she moved to St. Paul to work, and then later returned to the Henning area.

She was employed at the Log Cabin Café in Fergus Falls where she met and then married her husband, Milton "Bud" Ehlert. Together they lived in Florence, Montana, Clear Lake, Iowa and then Cottage Grove, Minnesota. In 1974, they moved to their farm between Battle Lake and Ashby. It was at that time they joined the Grue Lutheran Church. Amanda worked in various restaurants in her life and retired as a cook from the Pelican Lake Nursing Home in Ashby. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and had beautiful gardens. Amanda was a hard worker all her life, and she was known to always make sure everyone was fed before she sat down at the table. Milton passed away in August, 1987. She then moved to Henning, and then to Battle Lake. She was one of the first residents when Lakeview Senior Living Apartments opened. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center March, 2013.

Amanda is survived by her daughter, Roxanne (Curt) Thompson of Battle Lake; two sons, Richard (Mary) Ehlert of Allen, Texas and Robert (Linda) Ehlert of Battle Lake; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Ronda) Ehlert, Steven (MaryKaryl) Ehlert , Jason (Megan) Ehlert, Kellie (Greg) Funk, Bob (Rachel) Ehlert, Kristopher (Jeremy) Ehlert, Victoria Ehlert, and Aaron Thompson; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, Haidyn. She is also survived by her brother, Eldon (Marlene) Stueve of Henning; sister, Esther Dreyer of Henning; sister-in-law, Alma Stueve of Henning; and by numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Ehlert; parents, Dick and Marie Stueve; two brothers, Edwin and Emil Stueve; one sister, Dora Koepke, and brothers-in-law Leonard Dreyer and Alvin Koepke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Grue Lutheran Church of rural Ashby.

Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior at the church on Tuesday.
