William Lemke, 80, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
William Peter Lemke was born on October 27, 1934 near Long Lake, rural Fergus Falls, one of five children born to Otto and Agnes (Odland) Lemke. He attended country school and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1952. After graduating, Bill went to work driving truck for his brother.
On May 11, 1957, Bill married Bernadine Barry at St. James Catholic Church in Maine.
Bill purchased his own truck, working as an over-the-road transport truck driver for over forty years. He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and in 1961, was called up for duty, serving for a year during the Berlin Crisis. He was honorably discharged in August of 1962 and returned to trucking. Over the years, Bill drove for several companies, though hauled for International Transport in Rochester, MN for over twenty years.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing, raising beef cattle, tending to his vegetable garden and deer hunting. An avid sports fan, he lived for watching football and baseball, and seldom missed a game. Bill was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bernadine of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Edna, Alvina and Luella; and a brother, Walter.
Memorial Service: 11 AM Monday, January 12, 2015, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with visitation one hour prior to services.
