Virginia Frances Robertson

Virginia Robertson, 93, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at Mill Street Residence in Fergus Falls. Her memorial service is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home. There will be a visitation one hour prior.

Virginia was born in the Dumont, Minnesota, area on November 30, 1931, to Anthony and Susan (Bauer) Fridgen. Virginia grew up in Dumont and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1949. She was Valedictorian of her class.

Virginia met Vince one evening when she was out with friends at the Graceville bowling alley. Vince offered to drive her home. They were married May 13, 1951, and had a loving marriage that lasted for almost 50 years. They made their home in Fergus Falls, and were blessed with 7 children- Kay, John, Steve, Mike, Tony, Richard, and Jim. Virginia loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family.

Being a woman of deep faith, Virginia was very active in Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Virginia was an avid reader and often had several books going on at the same time. She was a wonderful baker. Her caramels, divinity, buns, cinnamon bread, and caramel rolls were favorites with family and friends. Her son Tony would save his caramel roll, take it to school with him and sell it.

Virginia always fought for the underdog and was a great believer in paying it forward. Her friends and family were very important to her, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand. She befriended many people who had no family close by and they would become part of their family. She loved writing letters to family and friends- sometimes several times in a week if she felt they needed encouragement. Vince often joked that she kept the post office in business, but Virginia was doing what she did best- helping others.

She had a well-developed and quirky sense of humor. Some of the gifts she gave and letters she wrote are still talked about!

Virginia was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold.

Virginia is survived by her children, Kay (Jeff) Demmer, Steve (Gretchen) Robertson, Mike (Mary) Robertson, Tony (Therese) Robertson; grandchildren, Katie (Shane), Ryan (CloEve), Patrick, Betsy (Nick), Zach, Maddie, Emily (Dan), Victoria (Todd), Gretchen (Josh), Abe (Amy), James (Paula), Tommy (Ngan), Alec (Rachel); 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy (Allen) Reddy, and David (Georgette) Fridgen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Susan; husband, Vincent; sons, John, James, and Richard; her siblings, Judy Fridgen, Pat Murphy, Mona Koob, and Bob Fridgen.
