Steven Keilen, 76, of Fergus Falls, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at his home.
There will be a visitation in his honor on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4-7pm with a prayer service starting at 6:30pm, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. Steven's Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 11am. There will also be a visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at St. Otto's Cemetery after the service.
Steven Peter Keilen was born on May 19, 1950, in Faribault, Minnesota, to Harold and Georgianna (Squier) Keilen. He grew up in Dundas, MN, and graduated from Northfield High School in Northfield, MN. In July of 1969, Steve joined the United States Army, and was a proud veteran.
On April 23, 1977, Steve married Sharon Brunner at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault, MN. The couple was blessed with two children, Josh and Amy. Steve and his family would make Faribault their home until 1995, moving to Fergus Falls.
For 39 years, Steve was a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing care at the Faribault State Hospital, Fergus Falls State Hospital, and the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. While working at the Veterans Home, Steve became friends with many of the residents. After his retirement, Steve would volunteer his time at the Veterans Home, continuing the friendships he made.
Steve was known to be a very generous and helpful person, and you could see that in his daily interactions. Steve was a man strong in his faith, and very active within the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Aide Association. He also enjoyed attending the Spring Gala, and Fish Frys.
Steve had a strong love for his family, church, and community. He was a proud member of the American Legion, and volunteered for Special Olympics. When his children were young, Steve volunteered his time with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Steve was an avid Minnesota sports fan, and he and his family would take yearly trips to see either the Vikings or the Twins play.
Even after his cancer diagnosis, Steve did not let that define him. He was a strong person and fought until the end. Steve passed away on September 21, 2026, at his residence under the care of his daughter, Amy, and Vivie Hospice.
Steve is survived by his children, Josh (Jarita) Keilen-Bond, Amy (Eric) Scherbenske; grandchildren, Karl Scherbenske, Aaron Baur, Daniel Keilen, and Mariah Bond; siblings, Michael (Carol) Keilen, Debra Hovland, Douglas Keilen, Kevin (Linda) Keilen, Tim (Nita) Keilen, Brian (Joan) Keilen, Tracy (Larry) Tarabocchia, and Kerry (Paul) Tesdahl; sister-in-law, Jeanette Keilen; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. (Ethel) Keilen and Georgianna (Richard) Lee; beloved wife, Sharon; siblings, Harold Keilen Jr., Jon Keilen; and nephew, Johnny Keilen.
Blessed be the memory of Steve Keilen.
