Sandra Grace Torgerson, age 83, of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on a sunny Sunday morning, October 26, surrounded by her loving family.
Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and care touched everyone who knew her.
She was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on January 14, 1942, to George and Selma (Thorson) Anderson, and graduated from Battle Lake High School. Sandy married the love of her life, Donald Torgerson, at Nidaros Church in Clitherall, Minnesota, in 1960. Together they made their home in Fergus Falls, where they raised their family and built a life filled with laughter, love, and community.
Sandy worked in caregiving for more than 40 years at the Wild Rice Children’s Home, Pioneer Care, and the Veterans Home. She loved spending time with family and friends—sharing meals and stories, laughing, and playing games. A proud member of the Eagles Aerie #2339, Sandy could often be found enjoying a good game of bingo in the company of friends. She was a loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma who made everyone feel special. She’ll be remembered as a caring neighbor, a loyal friend, and someone who always made people feel welcome.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Torgerson; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Matthew Sterns; brother, Roger Anderson; and dear friend, Donald Vallevand.
Sandy is survived by her children: Charlotte Mauro (Ron), Brian Torgerson, Bruce Torgerson (Cindy), and Connie Hauge (Todd); her grandchildren: Jess Torgerson (Jack Hegerle), Patrick (Randie Murray) and Jerome Mauro (Jess), Aaron, Isaac (Laura Miller), Gina (Jarad Morphew), Autumn (Zidane Andres), and Leah Hauge, Heather Petersen (Joel), Heidi Scherer (Dan), Don Dinger (Stessa), and Debora Karg (Dave); her great-grandchildren: Amelia and Emmett Mauro, Adyson and Arlo Hauge, Sutton Morphew, London and Piper Lawrence, Grace and Ava Scherer, and Tahren, Tresten (Kylie), and Gracyn Petersen; her great-great-grandchild, Jameson Petersen; and her sister-in-law, Debbie Anderson, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank her caregivers and hospice staff for showing Sandy compassion in her “golden years.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, from 1–4 p.m. at the Eagles Club (upstairs). All are welcome to come share memories and celebrate Sandy’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Fergus Falls Community Food Shelf or the Humane Society of Otter Tail County in Sandy’s honor.
