Ronald Ronken

May 11, 1943 — January 28, 2023

Ronald Ronken, 79, passed away January 28, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society - Battle Lake. He left this world in peace, surrounded by his loved ones.

Ronald Allan Ronken was born May 11, 1943, to Louise (Olson) and Noel Ronken in Sioux Falls, SD. After spending his childhood in Sioux Falls, he graduated high school from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD, class of 1961. At Augustana, he spent his time singing in the choir, playing football, playing basketball, and playing practical jokes. He continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA, acquiring his Associates Degree (class of 1965) and numerous lifelong friends.

Ron loved the outdoors. His career driving an Augie’s Catering truck allowed him to be outside while serving people and inserting a fair share of humor and practical jokes along the way.

Ron loved being a father to Erik and Leif. He enjoyed both coaching and watching the boys play countless hours of sports, primarily baseball, basketball, and tennis. He was their biggest fan and always instilled in them the importance of faith, sportsmanship, and family.

On any given weekend you could find Ron behind the wheel of his ‘79 Glastron, towing kids and adults doing water sports. Being at the cabin was Ron’s happy place, where he was able to share God’s beautiful creation with friends and family. Another love of Ron’s was his favorite baseball team, the Minnesota Twins. Ron attended Spring Training in Fort Myers, FL many times. He took pride in his Norwegian heritage, often using Norwegian phrases with friends and family. Throughout his life, Ron touched many people and made a lasting difference with his loving and caring nature.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his stepmother Carmen (Pearson) Ronken; siblings Robert (and his wife Marilyn), Richard, and Virginia, as well as many aunts, uncles, and friends. He is survived by his “special friend” (Ron’s words) Lois Goebel; sister-in-law Marilyn Ronken; brother-in-law David Shogren; “adopted” sister Patty Klein; sons Erik (Alia) and Leif (Jeny); grandchildren Annika, Carsten, Bjorn, and Ellie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN on Saturday, February 11 at 2 pm.  A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
