Romayne Bengtson

Romayne Bengtson, 82, of rural Battle Lake died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Romayne Gaarsland was born on February 18, 1931 in Battle Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attended Rural School District #270 in Everts Township, then graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1949.

On December 16, 1950 Romayne married Roy Bengtson. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Clitherall Township, rural Battle Lake. She was a homemaker, was an excellent seamstress doing sewing and mending for many people, worked for a number of years with Twins Supermarket in Battle Lake and did house cleaning in the area. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, bird watching, cats, quilting, knitting, crocheting, baking and was an excellent cook. Romayne enjoyed her family and was always making or doing something for a family member.

She is survived by four children, Bonnie (Paul) Mantei of Cannon Falls, Barbara (Calvin) Kraning and Roger (Pam) Bengtson all of Battle Lake and Rebecca (Norman) Luhning of Underwood; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Mark (MistyLee) Quast, Bronson, Liviah and Boden, Tim (Erica) Bengtson and Charlotte, Jaime Bengtson and Averie, Jackie (Tim) Scott, Kyle Kraning, Jessie (Bob) Hagen and Evan, Crystal (Thaddeus) Chance, and Kaitie Priem, and Matt's son Josh Quast; two brothers, Carl (Sara) Gaarsland of Pocatello, Idaho and David (Linda) Gaarsland of Battle Lake; special nephew, Joey Gaarsland; sister-in-law, Lilly Williams of New Ulm; two brothers-in-law, Bennie (Helen) Bengtson of Battle Lake and Carl (Dolores) Bengtson of Long Prairie; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Romayne was preceded in death by her husband, Roy on August 17, 2001; grandson, Mathew Quast; two infant children; four brothers-in-law, William, Nels, Herbert and Johnnie Bengtson; and by two sisters-in-law, Edith Lundby and Helen Mueller.

Memorial Service: 11 am Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Eagle Lake Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake

Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church

Clergy: Pastor John Telyea

Interment: Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery
