Robert Hoff

May 27, 1930 — January 9, 2020

Underwood

Robert Hoff, 89, of Underwood, died Thursday, January 9, 2020, at his home.

Robert Harold Hoff was born May 27, 1930 in St. Olaf Township, Otter Tail County, MN, the son of Peter and Mary (Juuvland) Hoff. He attended grade school at District 2 and graduated from Ashby High School.  Because of the distance, Robert stayed with family friends in town while attending school.  On December 28 of 1950, Robert entered the United States Air Force, and received both the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  Bob was sent to school to learn radar service and repair and was one of only 18 students to complete the training out of 100 that started. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1954.

While working at a TV electronics store in Madison, MN, Bob met his future wife, Laura Adolphsen.  They were married on June 21, 1958 in Ebenezer Evangelical United Brethren Church in Madison.

Bob and Laura moved to Ashby the following year and owned and operated an electronics store in Ashby.  Over the years, Bob worked for Gambles and Sears stores in Fergus doing appliance repair.  Some years later, Bob furthered his education and became an electrician.  He was proud to have operated his own business, Hoff Electric.  Later in his working years, he and Laura moved to St. Paul to work at Bradley House apartments.  Due to Laura’s health issues, they returned to their home in Ashby.  Bob continued to work through the Greenpeace program maintaining the rest stop near Dalton.  After keeping up with a home got to be too much for him, they moved to a home in rural Underwood. Bob was very skilled at understanding electronics and could get most anything to work.  He was a quiet man, but it was obvious that he loved and was proud of his family.  He loved politics and his model train set.

Bob is survived by his children, Coleen (Sherlock) Houge of Underwood, Dan (Kathy) Hoff of Osakis, and Kathleen (Dale) Alstead of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Holly Hoff of Battle Lake; grandchildren, Harmony Larson, Dereck (Megan) Houge, Travis (Ashley) Hoff, Austin (Kathy) Christianson, Ashley (Adam Taylor) Alstead, Amber Alstead, Alea (David) Stoll; great-grandchildren, Melody, Levi and Aria Larson, Blake, Owen and Chase Hoff, Kayden Christianson, and Isaiah Taylor, and Avery Shower.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Laura, whom he dearly missed; his son, James Hoff; granddaughter, Amanda Hoff; brothers, Donald Benhardus, Joe Hoff, and Franklin Hoff; sisters, Eleanor Bothun, Olga O’Donnell, Mildred Holmen, Agness Benhardus, and Marion Haagenson.
