Richard Rossum, 61 of Ashby died Thursday, May 30, 2013 under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
Richard Gayle Rossum was born on December 16, 1951 in Alexandria, Minnesota the son of Floyd and June (Carlson) Rossum. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville and attended the Evansville Public School graduating from the Evansville High School in 1969. He then continued his education at the Alexandria Technical College in Accounting and took some courses at Moorhead State University.
Rich, after high school, was employed with the Carlson Construction Co. then the Farmers Lumber and Supply both of Evansville. Richard and Rhonda Jacobson were married in 1978 and to this marriage was born one son, Michael. In 1980, Richard started Lakeside Lumber in Ashby working side by side with his mother for many years, and in 2002 his son Michael joined the business. He was a very respected businessman and was very proud of having three generations of his family working together. Rich was on the Park Region Telephone Co. Board of Directors for thirty-two years. He is a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church of Ashby and also attended Destiny Church. He enjoyed canoeing, gardening, working at his lumber business and really liked people. Richard and Lisa Bontjes were married on July 3, 2009 in Ashby. The world has lost a very kind, caring, generous man.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; son, Michael (Heather) Rossum of Ashby; two grandsons, Levi and Evan Rossum; mother, June Rossum of Evansville; brother, Ralph (Constance) Rossum of Claremont, California; three step-children and families, Jason (Jennifer) Morimoto, Ashley, Kayla and Zander of Ashby, Lacie (Sean) Ausland of Farmington and Joshua (Ali) Morimoto and Easton of Brandon; and by aunts, uncles, a niece, two nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Rossum.
Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Ashby School Auditorium in Ashby
Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby
