Richard "Dick" Peterson

Richard “Dick” Peterson, 83 of Battle Lake died Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Richard Harry Peterson was born on August 30, 1941, in Britton, South Dakota the son of Harry and Minnie (Carlson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed in White Stone Hill Church by Milnor, North Dakota. Dick attended the Aliceton School and graduated from Gwinner High School in 1959.

Richard and Shirley Toyne were married on December 5, 1959, in Lisbon, North Dakota. They lived in the St. Paul area where he drove truck for Sussel Lumber and then sold insurance for Farmers Insurance. In 1974, they purchased Bonnie Beach Resort by Battle Lake and he also drove school bus for the Battle Lake Public School, driving for ten years. In 1987, they started the Clitherall Lake Campgrounds and in 1988, they sold the resort and moved to the campgrounds. In 2000, they sold the campgrounds and then moved to Hillside Estates. In 1989 until 2005, they spent winters in Yuma, Arizona where Dick and Shirley managed a large campground, Araby Acres, and in their retirement, they wintered in Texas. Dick enjoyed snowmobiling, woodworking, and remodeling properties. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Kim (Larry) Charest, Ryan (Dawn) Peterson and Doug (Teri) Peterson; six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, Chelsey (Derek) Tysdal, Emelia, Aiden and Brody, McKenzie (Ryan) Lee, Everett, Orson, Ingrid and August, Ashley (Darin) Mischke and Nathan, Jessey (Nick) Paulzine, Carsyn, Prestyn and Hudsyn, Brittaney (Dustin) Fernholz, Lily, Gracie, Mallory and Colt, and Zacharey (Deidre) Peterson, Hayley, Jase and Tripp; sister, Bonnie Sveum of Coon Rapids; brother, Dennis (Sharon) Peterson of Milnor; and by numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, LeVon Sveum.

Memorial Service: 3:00 P.M., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted with the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake.
