Rhoda Wellbrock

Rhoda Wellbrock, 91, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Amery Memory Care, Amery, Wisconsin.

Rhoda Marie (Cloeter) Wellbrock was born April 21, 1927 in Shanghai, China where her parents, Arnold and Lola (Nollmann) Cloeter, were serving as missionaries.  After returning to the United States she lived in Annandale, Minnesota and Friberg Township. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1944 and went to work for the Fergus Falls National Bank. She married Kenneth Wellbrock on October 10, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ottertail, MN. After starting their family, Rhoda sewed custom drapes in her home. From 1973 to 1984 she worked for the Fergus Falls School System.

Rhoda began playing the organ when she was 12 years old and continued to play for church services for over 75 years. Rhoda was very active in her church, contributing in many ways including transcribing Braille for the Lutheran Blind Mission. Her many hobbies included knitting, oil painting and making her famous peanut brittle.

She is survived by sons Martin Wellbrock of Fergus Falls, and Larry (Jane) Wellbrock of Salem, CT; daughters Kathryn Wellbrock of San Diego, CA and Patricia (Michael) Seidl of Amery, WI; grandchildren Larry (Adrienne) Wellbrock of Tustin, CA, Robert (Wendy) Wellbrock of Richmond, CA and Kristina (DJ) Mercado of Oakland, CA; four great-grandchildren; siblings Herbert Cloeter of Roanoke, VA; Margaret Grefe of Ottertail, MN; Richard (Kathy) Cloeter of Henning, MN; Pauline (Richard) Riemer of Perham, MN; David Cloeter of Ottertail, MN and Carol (Herbert) Hoefer of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth and an infant daughter, Mary.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, Fergus Falls Concert Association, and Lutheran Braille Workers.

Visitation:  5 – 7 PM Monday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
