Philip Williams

March 25, 1919 — December 31, 2014

Philip J. Williams passed away on 31 December 2014 at the age of 95.

He was born on 25 March 1919 in Andretta, Italy. In March of 1921, with his mother Concetta, he sailed to America through Ellis Island to join his father Angelo. Philip was an excellent student and exceptional athlete; later in life he was inducted into the New Rochelle Boy's Club Inspiration Hall of Fame. He worked his way through college attending classes at Manhattan College, New York University, and finished his engineering degree at Cornell University under the government V-12 program.

After graduation, he went on active duty in the Navy as an engineering officer during WWII. He served on a refueling vessel in the Atlantic and weather patrol in the Pacific. After the war, Phil held a variety of engineering positions; he designed prosthetics for the VA, helped pioneer honeycomb structures, and designed computer and office furniture hardware. He excelled in each and holds many patents for his work.

Philip is predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Concetta Guglielmo Williams, his beloved wife Maria, sisters Theresa and Catherine, and brother John. He is survived by his son Philip (wife Mary), his daughter Loretta (husband Helmut), sisters Yolanda and Gloria, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Philip was a long and active member of the Knights of Columbus, having joined in 1948. He was a devoted husband and father and faithful and active Church parishioner. He lovingly cared for his wife for many years before her passing in 2009. He loved sports, having coached both baseball and basketball. Throughout the years he wrote untold numbers of short stories, many for his grand and great grandchildren - adventures, mysteries, heart-warming tales, most often ending with an important life lesson. Philip lived a full, productive and good life.
