Norman Selzle, 85, of Pickerel Lake, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Norman Robert Selzle, lovingly known as Norm, was born on September 21, 1940, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Adolph and Zelma (Austin) Selzle. He grew up on Elm Lake Resort, which bordered both South Dakota and North Dakota. He spent his formative years helping his parents manage the resort. His upbringing instilled within him a deep appreciation for nature, which reflected in his lifelong hobbies of gardening, hunting, fishing, trapping, and bird watching. Over time, Norman also became quite proficient in the smokehouse, where he enjoyed making sausage and smoking various types of meat.

Norman graduated from Forbes High School in 1958. He later served in the US Army in Germany before attending the State Teachers College in Ellendale, North Dakota, where he earned a degree in Education.

In 1964, Norman married Nina Lee Brandenburger in Forbes, North Dakota. The couple was blessed with two children, Kurt and Lynn. Together, they shared a beautiful journey raising their family.

Embarking on a fulfilling career in teaching, Norman taught at Frederick High and Barnard Middle School from 1968-1980. His passion for educating young minds led him to be an inspirational figure, known affectionately as “Storm’n Norman” by his students. After his teaching career, he worked as a crop hail advisor until his well-deserved retirement in 1998.

In 1999, Norman and Nina moved to Pickerel Lake, Minnesota, and embarked on a new chapter filled with cherished moments spent with family and new friends, surrounded by the serenity of the lake, where many games of cards were played.

Norman’s life was characterized by kindness, dedication, and a love for his family and nature. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of compassion and hard work will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his memory will be a beacon of light for those whose lives he touched.

Norman is survived by his wife, Nina; daughter Lynn (Jim) Wolters; granddaughter, Madison (Jacob) Wolters Young; sister, Dianne Drumm, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Zelma; and his son, Kurt Selzle.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Fergus Falls Minnesota Veterans Home for their exceptional care and support during Norman’s time of need.

A celebration of Norm's life will be held in the spring.
