Nelvin Thormodson

Nelvin Thormodson, age 83, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Dalton, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.

Nelvin was born in St. Olaf Township, rural Dalton to Oliver and Minnie (Berger) Thormodson on March 24, 1927. Nelvin was baptized at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church both of Dalton. He attended high school at the Crookston Ag School in Crookston, MN where he had many fond memories.

Nelvin was united in marriage September 25, 1949 to Mildred Bystol in Ashby. Their life was spent farming in the Dalton area where they were involved in dairy and later raising sheep. They retired in 2008 and moved to Fergus Falls.

Nelvin was a lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was very active in the choir and council. He served on numerous boards in his life, was a charter member Dalton Lions Club and was very proud of receiving the Melvin Jones award. He specially enjoyed his family and visiting with friends.

Nelvin is survived by his wife Mildred of Fergus Falls; Gaylan (Marcia) Thormodson of Dalton, Gerald (Danette) Thormodson of Fergus Falls, Robert (Susan) Thormodson of Dalton, Patricia (Dean) Rix of Fergus Falls, Bonnie (Arlan) Herbranson of Clitherall and James (Kristine) Thormodson of Eleva, WI; 18 grandchildren, Michael, Joel, Thomas, Krista, Lisa, Megan, Greta, Adam, Brian, Darin, Jessie, Lynn, Amy, Erin, Abby, Garrett, Ian and Austin; 8 great-grandchildren, Anna, Jayson, Emma, Lexie, Brody, Jack, Owen and Nora; brother, Loren (Debbie) Thormodson of Dalton; sisters, Delores Wessels of Moorhead, Mavis Degelman of Brandenton, FL, Marilyn (Roger) Ledding of Fergus Falls, Jane (Len) Ward of Hendersonville, NC; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
