Nancy J. Diiro

Nancy Diiro, 71, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Pioneer Care under the care of hospice. Nancy's memorial service will be held at 1p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. There will be a visitation one hour prior.

Nancy Jean Diiro was born in Louisiana on April 1, 1955 to Ione Olave (Moe) and Harold John Diiro. Nancy grew up in Moorhead, Minnesota and attended Riverside Elementary, South Junior High and graduated from Moorhead High in 1973. Nancy loved music including playing the piano and singing. Nancy had a great singing voice and used it to reach others throughout her life.

Nancy moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota to study social work at the Community College. She used her knowledge and compassion to help others while working at the Minnesota State Hospital, Homework Center, and the Salvation Army for over 40 years before retiring in 2023. Nancy also fostered young adults, which continued to cultivate deep roots in her community. Through her work, faith, and life, Nancy touched many people’s lives over the years.

Nancy’s life changed dramatically when she adopted Shelby on May 16, 1995. She helped Shelby enjoy life and grow into the woman she is today. Nancy would do anything to show her love to Shelby. Together, they enjoyed going on vacations, but also the simple things, like driving around town and grabbing coffee. Nancy had many pastimes such as crocheting and sewing. Their home hosted many family holidays, adorned with giraffes and music. Spending time with family, especially her great nephews, was very important to her. Thankfully, she met her infant great nephew just weeks before she passed away.

Nancy met her soulmate, Bill Weyrens, and they spent many years together, supporting one another. Bill passed away in 2019. Nancy continued to make her home in Fergus Falls with her daughter Shelby until she went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2026.

Family left to cherish the memories spent with Nancy include: her mother Ione Diiro; Bruce (brother) and Diane Diiro (Kelly and Katie); Jeff (brother) and Nancy Lunneborg (Andy and Emma).
