Mavis Darlene Hendrickson

December 6, 1934 — February 21, 2024

Evansville

Mavis Hendrickson, 89 of Evansville died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Evansville Care Center.

Mavis Darlene Hendrickson was born on December 6, 1934, in Alexandria, Minnesota the daughter of Edwin and Anna (Walberg) Lund.  She was baptized April 21, 1935 and confirmed May 9, 1948 at the Calvary Covenant Church.  Mavis attended country school and continued her education at the Evansville High School, graduating in 1952.

Mavis and Ardell Hendrickson were married on July 17, 1954, at the Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville.  She was employed at Crestview Manor Nursing Home which became the Evansville Care Center, from September 5, 1973 as a CNA.  She worked her way to be a TMA before finally moving into Dietary where she retired January 27, 2014.  Mavis loved being outside “playing in the dirt.”  Every year her flower gardens grew and were admired by many.  Mavis’s hobbies evolved as her boys grew, from ceramics when they were younger to sewing and patching clothes as they got older.   She progressed on to quilting with the Covenant Church ladies and finally embroidery as a resident of the Care Center.  Mavis was very active at the Care Center doing puzzles, playing bingo and embroidering anything she could iron a pattern on, usually flour sack dishtowels.   Nothing made Mavis happier than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Which often involved going to some form of “ball game” to watch them play.  Mavis and Ardell also enjoyed their rides around town in the Gator checking out all the activities and events.  They especially enjoyed anything involving music.

Mavis was a member of Calvary Covenant Church and the Ladies Aid, and also had been a member of the local garden club.  She was a kind and loving woman who found the good in everything and everyone.   Mavis will be missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by five sons: Steve (Kathy) Hendrickson of Evansville, Stuart (Kelly D.) Hendrickson of Albert Lea, Stacey (Melissa) Hendrickson of Somerset, WI, Scott (Kelly A.) Hendrickson of Big Lake and Shane (Kristine) Hendrickson of Lakeville; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Jane (Carmen) Paulson; and by numerous relatives and friends.  Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Ardell on August 28, 2023; parents, Edwin and Anna Lund; and brother Edwin Stanley Lund.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, March 8, 2024, at Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville, Minnesota, with a visitation beginning an hour prior. Burial will take place at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville.

Arrangements with Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Evansville.
