Mary Verry

Mary Ellen Verry, 72, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at her home.

Mary Ellen was born on January 23, 1946, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Ellen (Newman) Jurgens. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Newmansville, IL. Mary enjoyed doing chores and working on the family farm. She graduated from Virginia High School in 1964 and in 1969 moved to Minnesota where she worked in housekeeping at Lake Region Hospital.

Mary and Peter Ulschmid were wed in 1970 and had two children, Peter and Sheila.

She returned to Illinois and married Lenn Verry. They had one daughter, Lori in 1979. Upon their divorce, Mary and Lori settled in Fergus Falls.  She loved being a mom and took great pleasure in raising her daughter.  Mary worked as a custodian at the Senior Citizens Center in Fergus Falls.   She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

One of Mary’s greatest hobbies was her love of writing.  She kept many journals of events and memories throughout her life.  Mary enjoyed listening to music and singing to the good-time oldies, taking scenery pictures, art and drawing, collecting stamps and visiting antique shops.  She enjoyed the company of others, talking daily with her friends and neighbors wherever she resided.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ellen; two sisters, Judy Jurgens and Connie Lounsberry; niece Megan Lounsberry and a nephew Josh Jurgens.

She is survived by her children, Lori Verry of Dassel, MN, Peter Espelien and Sheila Espelien both of Alexandria, MN; sister, Faye Jones of Bloomington, IL; brother, David (Ann) Jurgens of Virgina, IL, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service:  11 AM, Friday, March 23, 2018 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
