Mark Drechsel

Mark Drechsel, 66, of Fergus Falls, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark William Drechsel was born on September 15, 1959, to William and Margaret (Eckblad) Drechsel in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He grew up in Fergus Falls, and was in the graduating class of 1977. After high school, Mark furthered his education at Fergus Falls Community College.

In 1981, Mark married Marcia Walkup in Moorhead, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with 2 children, Jessica and Jeremy. They also made their home in Fergus Falls, where Mark was employed by Metz Bakery for 36 years. After retirement, he worked as a custodian at Elbow Lake Public School. Mark enjoyed his time there and loved working with the students and staff.

Mark was an avid outdoorsman, and happiest when he was in the woods. Being a lover of trees, he planted over 1,000 trees on their property. One of Mark’s favorite quotes is from a Greek proverb- “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” When he wasn’t defending his trees, you could find him in the shop restoring classic tractors. As a true Minnesotan, he was an avid Vikings fan, no matter how the season went. Mark also enjoyed playing cards and board games with his family.

Mark loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, showing them the love he shared for the outdoors.

Sadly, Mark passed away on June 25, 2026, at his residence after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mark’s family would like to extend a special thank you for the compassionate care and support shown throughout his courageous fight, especially by the staff at the Fergus Falls Cancer Center and Vivie Hospice.

Mark is survived by his wife, Marcia; children, Jessica (Zach) Ridout, and Jeremy Drechsel; grandchildren, Jayla and Gavin; sister, Becky Drechsel; brothers, Lawrence Drechsel, and Matthew Drechsel; mother-in-law, Twila Walkup; brothers-in-law, Kelly Walkup, and Todd Walkup, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret; and his father-in-law, Ralph Walkup.

A private family service is being planned at this time.
