Marion Satterlie

August 29, 1939 — November 28, 2022

Evansville

Marion Lydia Satterlie went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 28th, 2022 while a resident at the Brandon Assisted Living at the age of 83.

She was born August 29, 1939, in Springfield, MN, to Louis and Lydia Prechel.  As an infant, the family moved to Comfrey, MN.  As she grew, her passion for music blossomed as she learned to play piano, played percussion in the band and sang in the choir at school.

After graduating from high school in 1957, she attended and graduated from the New Ulm Union Hospital School of Practical Nursing.  This began her mission to care for others as an LPN.

During this time, her older sister had moved to a farm southwest of Evansville.  While Marion was visiting her sister, and after the prodding of one of the Satterlie girls who just lived down the road, what started as a date at the movie in Alexandria with Kay Satterlie became a lifetime commitment.

Kay and Marion were married September 20, 1958, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey.  Kay and Marion rented the same farm southwest of Evansville from her sister and brother-in-law, purchasing it in 1963, making it their beloved home for 64 years.  As the mother to Debbie, Randy and Eric, she taught them to love and be loved, the importance of quiet moments in nature, to relish country life and the value of hard work.  She tirelessly worried and cared for others, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs.   Unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father was the foundation upon which she built her life.

Early in their married life, Marion worked as an LPN at the Elbow Lake Hospital, working the night shift.  With the struggles of raising two small children, helping in the barn and trying to convince Kay that overnight nurses do nursing duties and don’t sleep, she decided that raising her children was her true calling and left the nursing field.

Her hobbies were those of any good farm wife.  Gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, canning, baking fresh bread and cleaning the attic.   Soon they became tractor driving and spending countless hours on a lawnmower.  As a member of Faith Lutheran Church, she was active in Faith Women.

Marion was preceded in death by Kay on June 9, 2022, son-in-law Charles Martin in 2005, great grandsons Payton and Leighton Thoennes in 2017 and her siblings Donald, Yvonne and Marjorie.   Surviving Marion are her children Deb (John) Plaster, Randy (Julie) Satterlie and Eric (DeAnn) Satterlie all of Evansville.  Grandchildren Lynette (Justin) Perreault, LeAnn (Joe) Reznicek, Katie (Grant) Satterlie-Trisko, Danielle (Aaron) Wurm, Holly (Trent) Thoennes, Blake Satterlie and Allie Satterlie, along with eleven great grandchildren.  Also surviving Marion is her sister June Plagge, and sisters-in-law Maryann Prechel, Phyllis Langlie and ViAnn Peterson.
