It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Hovland, who left this world on March 13, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on June 11, 1946, in Italy, Marion was the daughter of Norris and Vanda (Demartino) Hovland. As an infant, she embarked on a journey to the United States with her mother, settling down in Rothsay.
Marion's life was marked by simple joys and cherished memories. She found delight in cooking, a passion that she cultivated throughout her life. Her fondness for animals, coloring, and peaceful moments spent outdoors showcased her gentle spirit and appreciation for the beauty of life. Marion found solace in the music of Elvis Presley, a beloved artist whose tunes resonated deeply with her heart.
During her working years, Marion dedicated her time to Productive Alternatives, where she poured her efforts into making a difference. Her routine visits to McDonald's for a sweet treat brought her happiness and joy, creating memories that she held dear.
In her later years, Marion resided at Prairie Community Services Briarwood Home, where she found warmth and companionship among the caring staff and friends who surrounded her. Known for her sharp memory and infectious sense of humor, Marion brightened the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She affectionately bestowed nicknames upon the staff, endearing herself to all with her playful spirit.
Marion's legacy of love and laughter will forever linger in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
Marion is preceded in death by her parents, Norris and Vanda. She is survived by her siblings, RoseAnn (Marlyn) Waltner of Marion, SD, Lori (Harland) Wasvick of Ashby, MN and David (Rachael) Hovland of Casper, WY along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Graveside Service: 11 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at N. Friborg Cemetery, rural Rothsay, followed by coffee and cookies.
Come celebrate Marion's Life with us Friday, March 22 from 2-4 pm at New Life parish, 102 Main Ave West, Rothsay.Funeral arrangements are entrusted with the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls.
