Marilyn Sanstead

Marilyn Sanstead, 87, of Evansville, died Thursday, August 22, 2019, at her home.

Marilyn (Oglesby) Sanstead was born February 3, 1932, in Osakis, Minnesota, the daughter of Vernon and Joyce (Abroe) Oglesby. Marilyn graduated from Alexandria High School. Marilyn met the handsome Lyle Sanstead roller skating at the Gangplank in Alexandria, and they married November 25, 1950. Marilyn and Lyle lived happily together in Evansville, MN for 68 and a half years.

Prior to their marriage, Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper at an Alexandria feed store, utilizing her shorthand skills.  Marilyn and Lyle farmed for nearly 40 years, milking cows and raising crops. Marilyn was involved in 4-H club for over 50 years, both as a member and a leader. Marilyn attended the Women Partners in Agriculture Program and graduated from Alexandria Technical College in 1986. She worked at the Alexandria Technical College for 15 years, and at Walmart for another 10 years.  After retiring, Marilyn volunteered at the Evansville Art Center for several years.  Marilyn and Lyle also sold Golden Pride Natural Products, and credit their longevity to vitamins. Marilyn was also a member of the Birthday Club for many years. She loved to make quilts and was active in the Faith Lutheran Church quilting club, Ladies Aide, and Church Bazaars.  Marilyn and Lyle loved to snowmobile and were part of the ‘Old Fogies” snowmobiling club for at least 25 years.

Marilyn and Lyle were blessed with five children.  She is preceded in death by their infant daughter, Jacqueline Ann; her parents; and two wonderful brothers, Lawrence and Bill.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Lyle; children and their families:

  • Kenneth Lee (Paula) Sanstead of Hoffman and their children:
    • Mitch (Kris) Sanstead, (Morgan, Kaitlyn, Sophie)
    • Robyn (Ryan) Hillsheim (Addisyn, Griffyn, and Bennyt)
    • Dan Sanstead (McKenna, Emily),
    • David (Kayla) Sanstead (Damon, Owen, Piper)
  • Kathleen Jean (Wade) Fauth of Grand Rapids and their son, Eddie
  • Michael Alan (Terri) Sanstead of Evansville and their children:
    • Jasmine (Chris) Synstelien (Emma, Hailey, Allie)
    • Jade Sanstead
  • Marlys Renee (Kurt) Steidl of Alexandria and their children:
    • Keith (Sarah) Steidl,
    • Sami Steidl and fiancé Jeff Montoya

Marilyn is also survived by sister Barb (Vern) Nelson; sisters-in-law, Joy Oglesby and Darlene Oglesby; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Monday, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral Service: 11 AM Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville
