Lyle G. Helgeson

Lyle Gilmen Helgeson, 80, passed away Sunday July 12, 2026, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN.  Lyle's funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  There will be a visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be at Pelican Lake Cemetery in Ashby, MN.

Lyle was born June 15, 1946, in Fergus Falls MN, to parents Gilmen and Rosella (Nohre) Helgeson. He graduated from Ashby Highschool in 1964 and went on to earn his associate's degree at the Fergus Falls Community College from 1965-1967. In 1968 he was drafted into the US Army and fought in the Vietnam War; he was honorably discharged in 1970.

After returning from the war Lyle worked various jobs, played on the city softball team and liked to bowl in his spare time. Like a true Minnesotan he enjoyed fishing and loved his Minnesota sports teams. He was an avid reader of history and military books and literature; most would say he was true history buff. Lyle had a very humorous personality and could always make you laugh. He very much enjoyed going to coffee in the various coffee groups he was a part of over the years.

He is survived by his sister, Diane; sister-in-law, Joan; nieces and nephews, Wendy, Kristie, Lane and Brian. He is proceeded in death by his parents and brother Dale Helgeson.
