Lois K. Erickson, 86, of Evansville, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Evansville Care Center.
Lois Kay was born on January 31, 1930 to Albert and Ellen (Ranstedt) Quam. She was baptized on May 4, 1930 at West Moe Church and confirmed on June 17, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lois attended District 47 Country School in Grant County and Evansville High School, graduating in 1947 and spent a summer working in Yellowstone Park. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter for 2 years.
Lois worked as a secretary for a year before marrying Earl Gerald Erickson on June 10, 1950. Larae Kolleen was born in 1952 and Earl Greg in 1956. They lived and farmed near Evansville for 28 years where Lois was a willing participant in the chores of the farm. She loved being outside and taking care of animals. The Registered Holstein Herd was sold in 1978 and they built a house Evansville and moved there in 1980. After Earl's death, she traveled and spent a week at Holden Village, a Lutheran Retreat Center in the North Cascade Mountains in the state of Washington. Lois and Earl enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states, plus Europe, Mexico, Canada and The Bahamas. The trips she took to Alaska and Hawaii were with her siblings and spouses and were special times. Lois loved the reunions (Ranstedt, Quam and Erickson) and family gatherings.
Lois was always involved with the women's organizations and committees of Faith Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir, held offices in Faith Women and was a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher. She always enjoyed sports and was a member of bowling and golfing teams and was an eager spectator at most sporting events. Her evenings were spent channel surfing for any Minnesota sports team. Lois belonged to a birthday club and a homemakers club and later on a "Lois" club, Evansville Community Club and was a Douglas County Extension Board Member. Lois did volunteer driving for Rainbow Rider and delivered Meals-on-Wheels for senior citizens and served as a companion for elderly women. Most of her time was spent taking care of their home, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and animals. She loved God, her husband, family and being with people.
