Underwood

Linus Katzner, age 79, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Underwood, Minnesota. Born on July 17, 1946, in Albany, Minnesota, Linus was the son of Louis Katzner, Sr. and Apollonia "Lonie" Bohmer. He graduated from Albany High School, where he excelled academically and was an athlete on the track team and cross country teams. After High School, Linus served in the US Army, stationed in Germany.

In 1972, Linus married JoAnn Templin at St. John’s University in Avon, Minnesota. Together, they created a loving home in St. Francis, Minnesota, where they welcomed three beautiful daughters: Tracy, Tanya, and Tamara.

Linus made his mark in life as a skilled masonry contractor. Outside of his professional life, he was a devoted outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, whether on a boat or ice fishing (always with the goal to catch his limit of sunfish, crappies or walleyes). Linus was an avid coon hunter, owning many Treeing Walker Coon Hounds, with whom he enjoyed many memorable coon hunting adventures, especially with his Grand Champion coonhound, “Rock”. He made several successful trips to Canada for Moose or Elk hunting.

For the last 15 years of his life, Linus resided in Underwood where he shared a six-acre farm with his good friend, Ellard. Together they played cribbage daily and had an extensive garden where Linus had the wonderful opportunity to use his old tractors. He took great pride in growing exceptionally large onions, which he sold to local grocery stores.

Linus is survived by his beloved three daughters, Tracy (Mike) Korton of Brooklyn Park, MN, Tanya (Mike) Grieger of Fargo, ND and Tamara (Jed) Folkens of Jordan, MN; five grandsons along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Apollonia “Lonie” Katzner; two brothers, Albin and Louis Jr. Katzner and a sister, Ruth Ann Miller.

Services to be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, MN. [date forthcoming]
