LeRoy Moores

Leroy Moores, 82 of Battle Lake died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Leroy Francis Moores was born on February 23, 1929 in Big Lake, Minnesota the son of Francis Jewell and Astrid Hildegard (Zetterberg) Moores. He grew up in Big Lake and graduated from the Big Lake High School. Leroy was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake by Pastor Harvey Pedersen. He served with the U.S. Army entering in January of 1954, then was with the Army Reserves and on December 31, 1961 he was Honorably discharged.

On Saturday, April 14, 1973 he was united in marriage to Alice Mary Streeter at the Salem English Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He worked with his dad on the family farm for many years and after their marriage Leroy and Alice purchased a farm by Big Lake. In 1979, they sold their farm and moved to Brooklyn Park where he was employed at a machine shop. After retirement they purchased a home on West Battle Lake, then moved into Battle Lake and in 2006 Leroy and Alice moved into Summit Village Apartments. Leroy and Alice were active with the Battle Lake Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed playing cards and was involved in the "Card Project" for about fifteen years. They enjoyed going to "Perkins" every Saturday and for many years would travel to Oregon in the summer to see relatives. They together were faithful members of the First Lutheran Church. Alice entered the Good Samaritan Center in September of 2010, Leroy helped with her needs and visited her daily. Due to health reasons, on March 2nd Leroy moved into the Good Samaritan where he resided until his death on March 13, 2011.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Alice; step-brother, John Strand of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Wayne) Osborn of Wahpeton, ND and Alice Streeter of Kelly Lake; one brother-in-law, Charles Streeter of Crystal and their families; and by many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother one brother, Ralph Moores; and one sister, Maxine Carlson.

Funeral Service: 2 pm Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake

Visitation: one hour prior to the service.

Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Battle Lake
