Leon G. Engelhart,72, of Fergus Falls, died on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Leon was born in Rugby ND, to Adam and Hazel Engelhart on July 13,1953. He lived in Towner, East Grand Forks, Willmar, and then Fergus Falls. He graduated from FFHS in 1972 and headed to Alexandria the next fall to attend Alex Tech to become a carpenter. And what a great carpenter he was always building and fixing something. From a wooden valance to a pantry, a bathroom, a deck, a porch, a whole house you name it I’m sure Leon has built it at one time or another. Leon worked construction for 40 years. He worked for Lindbloom’s, All Builders then moved to Montana where he owned and operated his own business and later returned to Fergus Falls where he worked at Woessner Construction along with building and helping friends with odd jobs and various projects.
Leon always told me to be prepared for whatever because he was an Eagle Scout and they are always prepared. He was extremely proud of his accomplishments as a Boy Scout.
In earlier years Leon was also a horseman, raising and showing many horses including his beautiful Arabian mare, Topp Secret. He showed her and rode western pleasure in AZ and Canada he loved his time with his horses and talked of it often.
Leon loved to go deer hunting and could hardly wait for it every year, he did bring home some beauties. a 10, 12, and a 14-point buck which he had mounted and are hanging on our walls.
In the summer he liked to putz around the yard mowing and trimming, growing his tomatoes, and even once in a while sit down and relax in his chair with Moose and Precious (neighbor dogs) right by him. Usually with a radio blasting nearby too.
In the winter there was ice fishing, shoveling and blowing snow, and sitting by our fireplace. When in Arizona it was exercising, shuffleboard, horseshoes, seeing the sites, and watching tv outside with no bugs. Lol.
Leon was a member of the MDHA, NRA as well as the Eagles and VFW auxiliary.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his older brothers Terry and David, and Great Nephew Treyton.
He leaves behind Jennie Porter and her family who love him and will greatly miss him, a brother Tim (Sally), three nephews Todd(Dana) of Renton, WA., Travis(Danette), and Taylor(Janessa), and 6 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nephews. Along with many friends, but a very special couple Al and Mary (Leon’s dance partner) Haiby.
A special thanks to Dr. Rooney and the staff at the Lake Region Cancer Center as well as the 3rd floor nurses. Special thanks to all his dear neighbors and friends that were there to help with many different projects and to tip a beer or two.
God Bless the memory of Leon G Engelhart.
I love you——Jennie.
