Lawrence Weinhandl

February 27, 1925 — October 20, 2017

Larry Weinhandl, 92 of Fergus Falls died Friday, October 20, 2017, at the Broen Home.

Lawrence Steve Weinhandl was born on February 27, 1925, the son of George Sr. and Katherine (Haider) Weinhandl.  He was baptized in the Catholic Faith and attended Country School by St. Anthony, North Dakota.  Larry served with the US Army Air Force, joining in November of 1945, serving in Germany and was discharged in January of 1949.

On February 21, 1949, he married LaVerne Graner in Phoenix, Arizona.  They made their home in Mandan, ND where he was employed with Gamble-Robinson Co. working in Wholesale Food.  In December of 1966, he transferred to Fergus Falls where they lived until January of 1975, when the family moved to rural Henning where they owned and operated the Four Corners Truck Stop and Junction Café.  In 1986, Larry retired from Gamble-Robinson Co. after thirty-seven years as a Direct Sales Rep. and in 1994, they moved back to Fergus Falls.  He enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, bingo, his friends and especially his family.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 612 both of Fergus Falls.  After a blood donation saved his wife's life in 1952, he went on to generously donate over 10 gallons of blood to others.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; five children, Gary Weinhandl of Clitherall, Tom (Janice) Weinhandl of Henning, Mike (Wanda) Weinhandl of Pelican Rapids, Connie (Steve) Noble of Superior, Wisconsin and Nancy Heck of Fergus Falls; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sister Rose of California, and by numerous relatives and friends.  Larry was preceded in death by infant twins, son and daughter, Kenneth and Karen, his parents and other relatives.

Memorial Service: 2 PM, Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls

Visitation: one hour prior to the service.

Clergy: Rev. Stan Satre

Military Honors: VFW Post 612, Fergus Falls.

Interment: First Lutheran North Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
