LaVerne Harold Walberg was born on April 2, 1942. He was the 2nd oldest of 9 children. He graduated from Evansville High School in 1960. After high school he enlisted into the United States Navy and later joined the United States Army. LaVerne met the love of his life Karen Jean Rogneby in 1965 and they married in 1967. Together they had 5 children, farmed and opened their home to over 200 foster children, many are still in contact. After farming, LaVerne went back to college for a degree in horticulture and started his landscape construction and design business. LaVerne worked for Swedberg Nursery for many years. After he started slowing down a bit, we would joke that the Nursery was paying him just to come visit. We so lovingly called it his “daycare”. LaVerne enjoyed woodworking, especially making live wood walking sticks that he gave to anyone who wanted one, gardening, fishing, and many other hobbies. LaVerne even traveled with a male acapella group and served on several area boards. LaVerne was a son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and mentor to all. And so, so much more.
LaVerne was the light of many peoples lives. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by many of his loved ones.
