Larry Jack Purcell Jr., age 67, resident of Underwood, MN, died on March 2, 2023 at the Barrett Care Center.
Larry was born in Pawnee, OK on August 2, 1955 to Larry Jack Purcell Sr. and Sandra Sue Wilcox. He was the eldest of three children. He attended school in Laverne, OK and graduated High School with the Class of 1973. Following his graduation from high school, he attended the Northwester Oklahoma State University in Alva and worked in the gas and oil fields in Oklahoma. In 1989 he took a job repairing oil pipelines in the Midwestern states. This employment brought him to Fergus Falls in 1989. He continued to work in the oil industry until he got tired of being on the road and took a job at 3M in Wahpeton and later Vadnais Heights. He met his wife Patricia Wagstrom and were married in Woodward, OK on December 30, 1992. Shortly after getting married, the couple moved from Fergus Falls to the metro area living in both Maplewood and Blaine. They remained there for over 20 years, eventually settling back in Underwood after Patricia’s retirement.
In Larry’s spare time, his passion was everything Oklahoma Sooners college sports, especially football. He enjoyed fishing with Patricia, spending hours in their boat on the lake. A highlight of Larry and Patricia’s fishing was a fishing trip in British Columbia! He was also known for this immaculately maintained yard which resulted in a friendly competition with their neighbor across the street. He received many compliments from envious neighbors over the years.
Larry enjoyed classic rock and blues music and he and Patricia attended many, many, many concerts.
Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia Wagstrom Purcell; father, Larry J. Purcell Sr; along with many extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra and brother, Troy Purcell, his in-laws Art and Pearl Wagstrom and his beloved Lucy Ann and Casey.
