Kristi Krause, 51, of rural Underwood, MN, died on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, at HIA Heather’s Hospice House in Fargo, ND.
Kristi Jo Krause was born on April 21, 1975, in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Roger and Linda (Mekalson) Van Horn. She was baptized in the First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Waconia, MN. Kristi attended the Thief River Falls elementary school, the Waconia schools and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1993. She continued her education starting at St. Cloud State University, switched to Normandale Junior College in Minneapolis and then landed at the Aveda Institute where she graduated as a certified hair stylist.
Kristi and Monty Krause were married on July 7, 2022, on South Turtle Lake, east of Underwood, MN. They lived in their home north of Underwood near North Turtle Lake.
Kristi worked at a number of salons until she started her own business at Trendz Hair Salon in Fergus Falls, MN. She eventually sold the business where she continued to rent a chair until they moved to a new salon, Salon Tru. Kristi really loved her job, her clients and her coworkers, and it was tough for her to leave the salon.
Kristi enjoyed traveling and she loved trying new and interesting places to eat. She enjoyed being at the lake with friends and family, both of which were very important to her. In school she enjoyed soccer, hockey and volleyball. She was a friend to everyone, she was very social and liked people. She was always ready to smile and make a joke.
Kristi is survived by her husband Monty, four children, Micah (Laura), Tyson (Brynn), Luke, and Reed; her mom, Linda Van Horn; her sister Cheryl (Chris) Schaefer, Ruby, Reed, Emily, and Katie; her brother, Mike (Terra) Van Horn and Isaac; and by numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her dad, Roger Van Horn.
There will be a celebration of life at 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at the Battle Lake Alliance Church in Battle Lake, MN. Visitation will be Thursday starting at 10:00 AM until time of service.
