Kathryn Akerman, 94, of Ashby, died on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Kathryn Thora was born on January 12, 1928, in Ashby, Minnesota the daughter of George and Anna Marie (Nelson) Melby.  She was baptized and confirmed in Kvam Free Lutheran Church.  Kathy attended Rural School District #4 through the eighth grade.

Kathy and Dale Akerman were married on November 2, 1947, at Kvam Free Lutheran Church.  They resided in St. Olaf Township where they farmed until they moved to Ashby in October of 1989.

Along with being a homemaker, she and Dale fostered many children whom she greatly adored.  Kathy was employed with the Standard Café, City Restaurant and as a nurse’s aide, cleaned Kvam church and mowed the cemetery.

Kathy was a lifetime member of Kvam Free Lutheran Church, where she was involved in ladies aide, sewing circle, Bible studies and taught Sunday School. Kathy enjoyed her family, flower gardening and baking.

She was a member of the St. Olaf Homemakers, lifetime member of the Lake Region Threshermen’s Assn and Auxiliary.  In her retirement, Kathy cleaned numerous homes and businesses in the Ashby community.

She is survived by four children, Dianne (David) Larson of Ashby, Richard (Darlene) Akerman of Dalton, Judy Peterson of Evansville and David (Karol) Akerman of Ashby; daughter-in-law, Teresa Akerman of Ashby; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Dayna (Wayne) Erlandson, Abby and Matthew; Debbi Larson, Kaylee (Zach) Hagen, Brooke, Jaxon, Avery and Maddox; DeNette (Peter Runningen) Larson, Deveny (Sean Saxton), Deven, Marc, Curtis, Rachel and Daniel; Lisa (Rich) Williams, McKenna and Sienna; Liane (Brad) Biesterfeld and Alyssa; Heidi (Dave) Christensen, Derrick and Dillon; Trevor (Marta) Akerman, Sage, Hunter and Max; Tyler (Heather) Akerman, Sophie, Olivia and Jaxon; Melissa Olson, Riley, Macen, Jayse and Jerzey; Ramsey, Reece and Rysten; Brendan (Taryn) Akerman, Morgan, Kylie and Brayden; Joseph Akerman and Andrew Akerman; three siblings, Glen (Arlene) Melby of Fergus Falls, Ruth Matchinsky of Elk River, Paul (Margie) Melby of Dalton; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Melby of Underwood; Arlene Munyon of Butte, Montana, Merle Hellickson of Fergus Falls, brothers-in-law Wayne of Hibbing, Kenneth (Marilyn) of Coon Rapids, numerous relatives and friends.  Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Akerman; son, Daryl Akerman; granddaughter Jenny Akerman; brother, Frank Melby; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian (Bob) LaFavor, brother-in-law Russell Matchinsky.

Memorials preferred to Kvam Free Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Clergy: Pastor Mark Johnson

Interment: Kvam Free Lutheran Cemetery.
