Jon Greenwood, 74, of Clitherall, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 near Henning, MN, the result of a motorcycle accident.
Jon Michael Greenwood was born on October 31, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Harlen and Rose (Schmit) Greenwood. In his earlier years, he spent a lot of time with his grandparents in Wyndmere, ND. In 1946, the family moved to Minnetonka where Jon received his education, graduating form Minnetonka High School in 1961. In the fall, Jon entered the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged a few years later. Following his discharge, Jon remained in California, living in the Long Beach area where he worked as a clerk for North American Rockwell.
In 1970, Jon returned to Minneapolis and worked for Control Data in the computer tape library. Eventually, Jon began his career for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring from there in 2007 to care for his mother.
Jon's passion in life was riding motorcycles and classic sports cars. Earlier in life, Jon spent much time sailing and kayaking on Stewart Lake and lived in the Greenwood family cabin. Jon took frequent motorcycle trips and especially enjoyed visiting family.
A doting son, Jon diligently cared for his parents so that they could remain in their home. Though he had no children of his own, he loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Jon is survived by two sisters, Sue Greenwood of Clitherall and Roxanne (Greg) Mikkelson of Apple Valley, MN; nieces and nephews, Todd Greenwood of Battle Lake, Brian Wollschlager of Fergus Falls, Michael Wollschlager of Fergus Falls, Barbara (Jason Schildman) Mikkelson of Minneapolis, Stephanie (Peter) Fastner of Maplewood, MN; great-nieces and nephews, Nolan Greenwood, Veda Schildman, and Lincoln Fastner.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy.
A private memorial gathering was held.
