James Loots

James Loots, 70 of rural Battle Lake died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Sanford Health in Fargo.

James Clarence Loots was born on January 3, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Theodore and Helen (Kuhlman) Loots. He attended school in St. Paul and graduated there from the Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959. He received a scholarship and attended the Macalester College in St. Paul where he played football.

James and Barbara Huesman were married on June 22, 1962 in St. Paul. After their marriage they lived in St. Paul where he was employed fifteen years with Murphy Motor Freight Lines starting as Dock Man working his way up to Regional Manager. He then worked as Vice-President both with Wintz Truck Lines and later with Barry Transport. He then worked four years for his son Rob, with Lakes Area Trucking. In the fall of 2003, Jim and Barbara moved to their home on West Battle Lake and the following spring he started with J-MAR out of Bismarck, ND where he worked as an independent broker, still doing this at the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing, hunting geese, duck and deer and especially loved the outdoors. He enjoyed games, playing checkers, bingo and poker with the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four children, Jim Jr. of Stillwater, Daniel (Heidi) of Roseville, Susan (Michael) Kieffer of Conway, AR and Robert (Janelle) of Ottertail City; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Joseph, Johanna, Bryan, Jessica, Brian, Lisa and Nicholas; one sister, LaDonna of Cleveland, Ohio and by one brother, Dean (Sharon) Loots of Forest Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Helen Loots.

Funeral Service: 11 am Monday, April 18, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, rural Battle Lake

Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake

Clergy: Rev. James Gronbeck and Intern Pastor Phil Roushey

Interment: Amor Cemetery, rural Battle Lake
