George Hanson

October 3, 1923 — November 22, 2017

George Hanson, 94, of Fergus Falls, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. George was born October 3, 1923 in Hillside, NJ, son of Charles H. and Martha (Nohr) Hanson. As a young boy he was born again into God’s family when he trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1948 and Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago in 1952. He was ordained to the ministry in 1953.

He pastored three churches in WI, Kenosha, East Delavan and Hartland. While serving as pastor at First Baptist Church in Plainfield, IL his wife Gloria (Claus) died after 25 years of marriage. George served on the board of Shepherds Ministries (to the developmentally disabled) for 25 years. He was treasurer on the board of Baptists for Life of MN for many years. He married Jean (Weld) in 1974. He served as pastor at Blaine Baptist in Minneapolis from 1976-1981 and at Southbrook Baptist in Wadena from 1982-1988 after which he retired and moved to Fergus Falls. George will be fondly remembered for his sweet smile, quick wit, meaningful prayers and faithful service at his church, Woodland Baptist, including singing duets with his wife for special music. In his younger years he led Awana clubs and enjoyed leading children's singing at Bible camp. His favorite Bible verses were 1 John 5:11-13 “And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles R., his wife, Gloria, his infant daughter, Sharon, and two daughters, Barbara and Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Jean and son Paul of Blaine, MN.
