Geneva Karasch

Geneva L. Karasch, 93, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Lake Region Health Center in Fergus Falls, MN.

Geneva was born January 14, 1933, to Christ and Asta Hanson in Eagle Lake Township. She was baptized and later confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church and attended a local country school through the eighth grade. Geneva grew up on her family farm as the 10th of 11 children. One of her favorite childhood memories was how much she loved to ride the work horses.

Geneva married Henry Sydow, to this union three children were born: Jackie, Wayne, and Chris. In 1980, she married Val Karasch. They remained happily married until Val's passing in 2009. Geneva was a woman of many talents; she held numerous jobs throughout the years where she could apply her skills including waitressing.

Geneva had a magnificent green thumb and loved gardening. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, dancing, and playing cards. More than anything, Geneva loved her friends and family. She was a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Preceding Geneva in death was her loving husband, Val Karasch; parents, Christ and Asta Hanson; siblings, Hartwick, Mabel, Raymond, Alvida, Clara, Alfred, Laurize, Harry, Violet; and granddaughter Stephanie Sue Sydow.

She is survived by her children, Jackie (Brian) Larsen, Wayne (Julie) Sydow, Chris (Kerry) Sydow; grandchildren, Tanya, Tim, Kelly, Nick, Samantha, Nathan, Shannon; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, David; good friend, Carol Sagerhorn; and many friends, nieces, and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held 1 pm, Friday, May 22, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN, with a visitation beginning at 12 noon. Burial following the service at First Lutheran Cemetery in Battle Lake. Arrangements with Glende-Nilson Funeral Homes.
