Evelyn “Evie” B. Brosowske, 101, died June 5, 2026 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Evie was born April 23, 1925 in Wyndmere, North Dakota, as one of seven siblings born to Peter and Milady “Millie” (Lesovsky) Wacha. She was labeled with the nickname “Boots” at a young age, a name that remained throughout her lifetime. She graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1943.
She caught the eye of Howard Brosowske at a local dance. They married October 12, 1944, and had three children. The couple farmed in rural Barney, ND before moving to Fergus Falls and continued farming in Carlisle Township. They moved to the city of Fergus Falls in the 1970s. Throughout their 71 years of marriage, they often could be found dancing wherever a good polka band could be found.
Evie was a familiar face at Service Food, where she worked for over 40 years and made long and lasting friends. She also enjoyed fishing, cruising the countryside with family, her pet pig “Arnie,” and spending time with friends. Her quick wit and intriguing stories – some true; some not so true – left her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with many precious (and laughable) memories. They all knew to open birthday cards over the trash, as they inevitably contained generous amounts of glitter. She will forever be remembered as the best Granny ever.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband Howard; son, Rick; son-in-law, Arnie Raether; great-granddaughter, Maddie Sturtz; her parents; and siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Erickson of Alaska, Kathleen Raether of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Lynnette Meyer of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Zach (Raven) Erickson, Doneen Deleon, Julie Boese, Sarah Sturtz, Kristin Hoffman, Heather (Chris) Hames, Justin (Cristy) Brosowske, and Serena Melville; great-grandchildren, Samuel Peterson, Eliza (David) Morrison, Tatum Volkmar, Abbey and Conner Boese, Taylor Sturtz, Chris, Callan and Caleb Hoffman, Colin, Levi and Bryson Hames, Armor and Lindy Brosowske, Maddie and Dylan Selzler , Ayden and Zara Erickson; and a host of family and friends.
Memorial service will be Monday, June 15 at 11:00am, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls.
