Eugene Fick, 92 of Underwood died Monday, October 19, 2020, at Shady Oak Adult Foster Care of rural Underwood, Minnesota.
Eugene Kenneth Fick was born on December 18, 1927, in Lincoln, Minnesota the son of Gottlieb Gustav and Bertha Ericka (Smith) Fick. He attended grade school in Dalton and graduated from the Henning High School in 1945. Gene enlisted in the US Army in 1946, serving two years with a motor pool as a mechanic. He was stationed in California and then Washington and was Honorably Discharged in 1947.
On July 23, 1990, Gene married Gladys Lanore Hagen in Sisseton, South Dakota. They lived on their farm by Underwood. He had been in partnership with his brother, Ralph in farming, worked at the National Tea Packing Plant from 1968 to 1974, then was employed with Minn-Dak Sugar Plant and the East Grand Forks Sugar Plant from 1974 to 2000, and did painting in the summer. Gene is a member of Aastad Lutheran Church, Eagles, Elks and a lifetime member of the Underwood American Legion Post #489. As a young man he enjoyed ski jumping, always enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, and was known for his accordion playing.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Pamela Jean (Arlin) Olson of Elbow Lake; two grandchildren, Ashley and Aaron; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Alana; special nephew, Terry (Val) Fick of Ashby; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys on March 8, 2014; parents, Gottlieb and Bertha Fick; five brothers, John, Herb, Robert, Ralph and Stanley; and five sisters, Loretta Ripley, Frances Fairbanks, Eva Bergerud, Lila Anderson and Mabel Mykleby.
Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with visitation one hour prior to the service.
