Ellen Kirkvold 92 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. Ellen Alphield Kirkvold was born on March 4, 1928, by Nebish, Minnesota, in Beltrami County, the daughter of Ole and Ida (Christopherson) Erickson. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith, attended the Nebish School, and then Country School Dist. #6 in Beltrami County. On June 6, 1948, Ellen married John Kirkvold at the First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived on their farm in Eagle Lake Township, rural Battle Lake. They farmed until 2003, when they purchased a home in Fergus Falls. Ellen was employed with the Pelican Lake Nursing Home in Ashby for thirty years as a nurse’s aide. John passed away on October 18, 2004. Ellen was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she was involved in circle, and the Ladies Aid Group. Ellen enjoyed singing, playing guitar, sewing, and reading. She always enjoyed visiting with people. She cherished her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Eugene (Cindy) Kirkvold of Battle Lake, Cynthia Shippee of Fergus Falls, Jeffrey (Kim) Kirkvold of Battle Lake and Debra Kaasa of Fergus Falls; ten grandchildren, Christen (Christine) Lillis, Coralene (Mike) Guhlke, Heidi (Adam Dvorak) Shippee, Gretchen (Peter Oliver) Shippee, Emily Hessling, Gina (Liz) Kaasa, Andy (Toni Gbai) Kaasa, Melissa (Dean) Rocholl, Bill (Rebecca) Kirkvold and Danelle Formo; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and by numerous relatives and friends. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Ole and Ida Erickson; six sisters, Irene Fadness, Lillian Boe, Mary Moe, Florence Moe, Bertha Smith and Ruth Smith; three brothers, Carl, Selmar and infant son, Fredrick. State and CDC social distancing guidelines will be followed. Memorial Service: 3:30 PM, Monday, June 8, 2020, with visitation one hour prior. Due to the recent fire at Bethel Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake, the service has now been moved to the Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton. Clergy: Rev.
