Edward V. Johnson, 92, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024, at his residence. His funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Central Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Edward Vincent Johnson was born February 27, 1932, to Edward and Hilda (Andrud) Johnson in Pelican Rapids Minnesota. He attended the Country School through 8th grade and then attended the Pelican Rapids School graduating in 1950. After graduation, he took over the home farm, raising both dairy and beef cattle and growing fields of hay and grain to feed them.
Edward married JoAnn Sather on August 21, 1960, at Grove Lake Lutheran church. The two worked together raising their family and running the farm.
He always had an interest in flying and in airplanes, so at the age of 50, Ed and his daughter Lori took flying lessons and got their pilot’s license. He then bought a four-seat Piper Warrior II airplane and enjoyed going on short trips in it. Ed was an avid reader, and enjoyed non-fiction writings. When he was 17, he subscribed to National Geographic Magazine, and was still enjoying them until his passing. With his parents both being from Sweden, he learned to speak Swedish before he learned English. All who knew him, knew he was a talker, and was usually the last one to leave the church. He was also known to be a soft-spoken man that was strong in his faith. He loved spending time with family and his dogs, especially at gatherings on Pelican Lake.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughters, Lori Johnson, and Mary (Kelly) Kassenborg; grandchildren, Jessica Schaller, Kristine (Mike) Miosek, Matthew (April Bowdish) Walls, and Derek Kassenborg; great grandchildren, Bailey, Noah, Henley, Karlee, Boston, Jaxon, and Kinsley; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
