Dwight Oliver

Dwight Oliver, age 75, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, May 16, 2011 in the care of Lakeland Hospice.

Dwight Marvin Oliver was born on September 17, 1935 in Bellefontaine, Ohio the son of Lawrence and Lucille (Tapp) Oliver. He attended the East Liberty Public School and then the Zanesfield Public School both in Ohio. After his schooling he worked various jobs. Dwight then enlisted in the US Army, in Artillery serving in Fort Knox in Kentucky, Fort Sill in Lawton, OK, Fort Eustis in Virginia, one year in Vietnam. He then was an instructor for a Reserve outfit in Mobile, AL, then served in Okinawa, then returned to Fort Eustis, then served in Germany and returned to Fort Eustis where he was discharged in 1980, from twenty years of service.

Dwight married Doris Herrman on November 9, 1962 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. They together lived various places and after his retirement they returned to Ohio where Dwight was employed with a fertilizer plant and then a chicken farm. In 1988 they moved to Fergus Falls and in 1989 they purchased their home south of Fergus. In Minnesota he was employed with East Otter Tail Ag with their fertilizer plant, drove milk truck for one year and then went over the road with Evenson Trucking of Pelican Rapids until his retirement in September of 1999. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, building bird houses and also had made chests for many family members. Dwight was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

Dwight is survived by his wife-Doris; two daughters - Victoria Mortimore of Bellefontaine, OH and Sonja (Preston) Billings of Fergus Falls; three sons, Robert (Sherry) Mortimore and Richard (Victoria) Mortimore both of Cincinnati, OH; Micheal (Brenda) Mortimore of Bellefontaine OH; his brothers Boyd (Sandi) Oliver of Ashville, OH, Lloyd (Sue) Oliver of West Liberty, OH And Dean (Marjorie) Oliver of West Mansfield, OH; and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lucille Oliver and by one brother, Russell Oliver in April of 2006.

Memorials preferred to Lakeland Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Funeral Services: Friday, May 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Church of the Nazarene, Fergus Falls

Visitation: Thursday from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church.
