Dorothy Diaz, 79, of Battle Lake, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, her residence under the care of her family and Lakeland Hospice.
Dorothy Joyce Diaz was born on January 13, 1933 in Havana, Cuba the daughter of William and Mabel (Roberts) Meinke who were missionaries in Cuba. She was baptized and confirmed in the Baptist Faith. Dorothy then lived in Park Rapids, Minnesota where she attended high school through the tenth grade.
As a young lady she moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1991, Dorothy moved to Shakopee, Minnesota and in October of 2010 she moved to Battle Lake. She worked various restaurant jobs, mainly waitressing, and in Minnesota did housekeeping in nursing homes. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed movies and reality shows, long walks, and gardening in her yard.
Dorothy is survived by her six children, Ron (Eva) Old Sheild of Hebron, Tom (Jan) Andring of Minnetonka, Minnie Meinke of Chicago, Isabel (Javier) Avalos of Shakopee, Josette (Carlos) Ramos of Chicago and Ana Knight of Battle Lake; eighteen grandchildren; Faith, Leticia, Javier, Erica, Linda, Carlos, Anjel, Angelica, Daniel, Dora Lee, Nicole, Wilson, William , Barb, Tom, Jody, Rusty, Wendy, three great grandchildren; Amelia, Jack, Marco, one sister, Mary Miller of Park Rapids; one brother, John Meinke of Park Rapids and by friends and relatives. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Meinke and by one daughter, Adelina Rodriguez.
Graveside Service at 10 am Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Lakewood Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 am the First Lutheran Church both of Battle Lake.
